Brazilian & International Learning Options

Brazilian Learning Options

ATIVO offers areas of academic concentration which follow the national educational standards as stipulated in the Diretrizes Nacionais da Educação Básica.  These correspond to a set of viable pedagogical guidelines stipulated by the Conselho Nacional de Educação (CNE), Brasil, to bolster excellence in learning.

International Learning Options

In tandem with ATIVO, the International School of Macaé (ISoM) offers national students an opportunity to learn English as an Additional Language (EAL).  At par with international peers, national students attend classes for two and one half additional hours daily within one of the two EAL developmental streams.

ISoM also offers a comprehensive academic curriculum in the English language to students attending classes at the Early Childhood Education level through the 10th grade.  Classes for students at the 11th and 12th Grades may be offered once the request meets special admission requirements.

Module I -             English as an Additional Language

Through Module I, children who have limited or no basis in the English language develop comprehension, vocabulary, sentence structures, idioms and other components of the English language using games, arts, sports, stories, videos and other activities, and are motivated to then express themselves through conversation in English.

Module II -            Integrated Study in English as an Additional Language

In Module II, children who have attained fluency and structural competences in the English language maintain and improve their level of language dominance.  Through the use of the world-renowned International Primary Curriculum, children read, write, discuss, interpret, review and research themes and concepts using the English language in a cross-cultural classroom setting which includes international and national students.

Module III  -           Comprehensive Education in the English Language

Primary & Middle School - To provide a World Class learning option to families residing in Macaé, ISoM has acquired licensing rights to implement the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).  The IPC is the learning axis driving cross-curricular practice in our classrooms, where mathematics, science, the language arts and social studies are pivotal core areas of learning.

Students attend school seven hours per day during a minimum of one hundred and eighty days per year. Faculty members at ISoM are national and international, certified and experienced teachers.

Upper School - Module III also provides an environment where students whose parents are interested in providing them with a certified international high school education can have the necessary experiences to achieve it.

Students exercise their competency in all core subjects and submit to all required assessments and tests necessary for certification of their education.  A student completing Module III - Upper School will possess an accredited American high school diploma and thus bear the necessary certification for acceptance to any university worldwide.

In addition, our school grants the opportunity for students to continue to perfect their proficiency in the English language through completing one or more courses chosen from a United States (US) curriculum at the high school level. Students use classroom time, internet access, and written course materials to achieve their individual educational goals.
